MLC ‘Best Doctor’ Program

Imagine you’ve just been told that you, or someone in your immediate family, is seriously ill. Most people know that having insurance will provide the financial security you need, but what about the other decisions you need to make? What about the questions you want to ask? MLC has gone that one step further with their unique ‘Best Doctors’ program.

If you take out a new or hold an existing life, TPD, income protection or trauma policy with MLC you, your partner, your children your parents and your partner's parents will receive access to this unique medical advice service provided by Best Doctors. This means you won’t have to waste your time (and mental health!) searching for leading specialists, or potential treatments - especially in the minefield of information available these days online.

Best Doctors was founded in 1989 by doctors from Harvard Medical School, and now exits in over 30 countries world-wide. The program has only one goal - to connect ill people to a network of peer-nominated, leading specialists around the globe.

At no extra cost, this means you can contact leading specialists for medical advice about any serious medical condition you or an immediate family are experiencing, including cancer, stroke, or any other condition causing you major discomfort or disruption to your usual healthy life. Common queries Best Doctors receive are, for example, confirmation of diagnoses, assistance in deciding on treatment options, and questions about information received from doctors.

To have access to this service the medical condition does not even need to be a claimable event.

How does Best Doctors work?

MLC clients can contact Best Doctors using their toll-free number. After providing consent for Best Doctors to gather and analyse your medical information, a team of medical experts in Boston will then review your case in detail by;

  • Identifying the important issues in your case,
  • Identifying specific question you may have, and
  • Distilling the specific case into a detailed Clinical Summary

Best Doctors then turns to its global network of over 50,000 peer-nominated, leading medical specialists to identify who is best suited to review your specific case. Once chosen, this specialist receives your medical information and will conduct an in-depth analysis of your case. After this is completed the specialist will prepare a report based on your key-issues and concerns.

This report is then sent to a medical professional from Best Doctors in Australia who will call you to discuss the main findings, prior to forwarding the full report to you. It is up to you whether you chose to share this report with your local doctor.

On average this process takes 15-20 business days if a review of pathology is not required.

In relation to the MLC policy you currently hold, you can also rest assured that your privacy is protected - MLC will not receive a copy of your consultation report from Best Doctors, and nor will they accept the consultation report in support of a claim. They will never ask you for a copy of the report and will never accept a copy from you. Your local treating specialist can, however, with your permission use information from the report when submitting medical information to MLC.

The results of this remarkable program speak for themselves with 96% of MLC clients who have used the program intending to tell their friends and family about it.
