Offset Account

An offset account lets borrowers put savings in an account that is offset against your overall mortgage to reduce the interest rate you are paying. For example, if you have a loan for $200,000 and have $50,000 in your offset account, then interest is charged on the balance of $50,000. Offset accounts are desirable because, you are essentially getting interest on your savings at the rate that the bank lend at.
