Westpac Bank was the first bank to open in New South Wales, and commenced trading on 8 April 1817 with a single office. In subsequent years after a number of mergers, the Westpac brand was born. Westpac's nine business units serve over 8 million customers in Australia and New Zealand. In 1997 they merged with Bank of Melbourne in Victoria and in 1995 they merged with Challenge Bank in Westvaco Australia. Westpac have just changed its name yet again. Back to Westpac.
